Maddie and Jason's Portsmouth, NH summer engagement session

Love doing engagement sessions with future wedding couples as it gives us a chance to break the ice and get to know each other a little bit before the wedding day! I am so looking forward to Maddie and Jason’s wedding July 2021!

They wanted to do their photos in beautiful downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire as the town has so many special memories for them! We started at the historical North Church in Market Square right in the center of town. The golden hour light in summer is just dreamy! We walked over the The Music Hall to do some shots in front of this gorgeous 1878 Victorian-era Historic Theater! (Fun fact: The Music Hall claims to be the oldest operating theater in New Hampshire and the 14th oldest in the United States and major props to The Music Hall for taking a stand with Black Lives Matter on their billboard ❤️)

After we wandered through downtown to Prescott Park and checked out the flower gardens before heading to the waterfront. It was the perfect summer evening. Can’t wait to see these two get married next year!

Elopement at Hidden Pond Kennebunkport, Maine

Kim and Chuck recently got married in the most amazing, intimate elopement at Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport, Maine. What could be more amazing then exploring Hidden Pond, Goose Rocks beach together? Then having Earth Chef, Joe Schafer prepare a special meal for two served in the most romantic private shed, “The Potting Shed” in the garden overlooking Hidden Pond.

Bohemian Styled Wedding Inspiration

This bohemian styled wedding shoot took place on the coast of Maine at Walker’s Maine Restaurant.  Designed by the amazingly talented Michelle Rose of Minka Flowers and styling/creative direction by Heidi Kirn Photography. Walkers Maine is the culinary vision of Chef Justin Walker and his restaurateur wife Danielle Johnson Walker. The perfect location for an intimate coastal wedding with the most amazing food. Thanks to all of the friends/vendors listed below who made this photoshoot spectacular! SO much artistry and talent.

The theme sunset and teal colors was the vision of Michelle Rose of Minka Flowers and is just so stunning. She paired it with the terra-cotta accents and I just love the calligraphy that Jamie of Ink and Thistle Press of Kennebunkport did!

Destination Engagement Photography in Kennebunkport, Maine

Destination engagement shoot! This Boston area couple drove up for a chilly yet beautiful early spring day in Kennebunkport. The beach, lobster boats and docks were some of our beautiful stops.

Mario and I met while I was studying to become a veterinarian on the island of St. Kitts. Mario was working as a marine animal trainer and our mutual love for sand, the sea and animals brought us together! I grew up in New England and knew I always wanted to move back here. Lucky for me - even though Mario is a native Cuban - he was already a pats and sox fan! After moving to Massachusetts, Mario realized New England was the place he always pictured living, just never knew it existed!

We currently live with our two St Kitts rescue dogs and a cat. Our older dog is the reason we met - when she wandered down the beach one day and I found her getting a good ear scratch from her future dad! The New England coast may be a little different than the shores of st kitts, but we are so happy to start this new chapter of our lives in a place we both love!

Portland, Maine City Hall Elopement

Jenny and Mike wanted a low key downtown city elopement in Portland, Maine. They just loved the classic and beautiful architecture of Portland City Hall. The gorgeous marble staircase was the perfect place to do some first look bride and groom photos. They celebrated after with a small intimate dinner with family and close friends at The Portland Press Hotel across the street on Exchange Street. Her stunning dress is from BHLD.

Dress: BHLDN

Cake: Chocolate Mocha buttercream with wild jam pudding. We also had s’mores lollipops (my favorite) and truffles

Party Favors: DIY recycled mini notebooks (stamped with Mike and Jenny) - all from Etsy

Groom Suit: pieces from his closet :)

Wedding Coordinator: Anna, The Press Hotel

Rings: brilliant earth - sustainably designed rings

Flowers: DIY bouquets with flowers from Trader Joe’s, recycled wine bottles, mini lights, DIY arbor flowers designed by bride

Music: playlist by groom

Hair: Lavender Salon

“The favors and decorations were all DIY. We wanted a small, intimate yet unique and non traditional ceremony. We were engaged at cabins in the Catskills mountains during the summer when the orange tiger Lily flower is in bloom ( hence The orange tiger lillies incorporated into the arbors and other decorations) which also worked well for a fall themed wedding. I did my own makeup, hair was done by Laurel at Lavender salon in Portland.  We did a unity ceremony (during the regular ceremony) using rocks and stones from a beach in south portland (guests transferred their love and energy vibes to the rocks and we saved them).  We exchanged vow cards which we read in private when the wedding was over - sacred and shared between the both of us only. Our menu was also all vegetarian.

Goose Rocks Beach Surprise Proposal

Well, I am pretty excited that Elana and Max’s Surprise proposal at Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport Maine was featured on The Knot’s, How They Asked!!

This is their favorite beach and I mean…. can you see why?? Ah. So gorgeous.

Max had contacted me a few months before to start hatching out a plan! We had set up the plan for me to be down at the beach taking photos when he would ask if I would mind taking their picture with his phone. As you can see from the photos below… YESSSS she was surprised!

You can check out their adorable story on How They Asked here: https://howtheyasked.com/elana-and-max/

Boston Engagement Photography

We enjoyed a warmer then normal winter day in Boston in January! We met on Newbury Street and strolled down to the Boston Public Garden in downtown Boston to take some engagement photos. We had fun chatting, laughing and exploring the garden. And a little debate over the statue of Washington in the Park! The duck pond is frozen over in the winter so we were able to walk out on it and visit the little island in the middle for some photographs!

Alex is wearing a beautiful white coat that showed off her gorgeous engagement ring. This couple is planning a lovely August wedding in Duxbury, Massachusetts.

Heidi Kirn Ogunquit Surprise Proposal Engagement-69717.jpg

This was such a fun surprise proposal on the coast of Maine on Ogunquit's marginal way. It was a destination proposal as the couple loved to vacation in Ogunquit.  Her engagement ring was actually her grandmother’s ring which made the entire moment more special.

The Knot How he asked featured Surprise Proposal in Ogunquit

Heidi Kirn Photography was thrilled to be featured today on The Knot's How he asked Blog!  This was such a fun surprise proposal!

This couple from Ottawa, Canada were planning a vacation at The Beachmere Inn along Marginal Way in Ogunquit over Labor day weekend. They have been here twice and love the town.

Little did Melissa know that her boyfriend was also planning a surprise proposal! He contacted me with a plan!  He was going to tell her that he  made a dinner reservation  in Perkin's Cove and walk along the marginal way towards there. I would be there with my camera taking photos and when he saw me there he would ask  if I  could take a photo with his phone! He would then  go on one knee, and then I would switch to my real camera!

The plan all worked out perfectly and Melissa was in tears as "she said yes!!"

We enjoyed the sunset as we took a few more photos.

The Ring:

The ring is my grandmother’s (or as we call her “Bubby”). My grandfather (“Zaide”) bought it for her in September of 1959 in Montreal. Unfortunately he passed away in 1982. She still wears her wedding band to this day. My Bubby would often tell me that she is “leaving the ring for me”. As my Bubby is one of my best of friends – the thought of her “leaving the ring for me” was special, but also heartbreaking. When Jon proposed with her ring I was overcome with emotion. When I called her letting her know I was engaged and wearing her ring she said she was happy to be here to see it on my hand. My Bubby is one of the strongest, most loving people I know, and I feel so lucky to be able to wear the ring that my Zaide gave her 58 years ago.
